报告简介:
      Subsurface  information, i.e., the soil stratification and the soil properties, is critical  to the design, construction, and subsequent performance of geotechnical  structures. However, in practice, due to the  limitation of site investigation techniques and project budget, underground  space may not be observed completely and directly; therefore, the available  subsurface information typically possesses a considerable degree of uncertainty.  In this presentation, I will present my research on data mining and machine  learning based probabilistic models and analysis procedures for quantifying  subsurface uncertainties and evaluating their effects on the safety of  geotechnical structures. The emphases will be given to three aspects: 1)  stochastic stratification simulation algorithm using discrete input, 2)  interpretation and characterization algorithm for borehole and CPT raw data, and  3) reliability/probability-based geotechnical design using the developed  techniques. I will also introduce the blueprint of someppotential future research, which include 1) data fusion based integrated  subsurface characterization algorithm, 2) lifetime risk assessment system for  civil infrastructures, and 3) machine learning based detection and response  system for engineering and natural hazards.

报告人简介:
    Robert Liang教授是国际知名的岩土工程专家,美国University of Dayton土木工程系主任,美国土木工程师学会(ASCE)会士(Fellow),并担任ASCE、ASTM、TRB等多个美国土木与交通工程界重要学术组织的委员,曾任SCI期刊《Journal of Engineering Mechanics, ASCE》的副主编,现任SCI期刊《Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering,  ASCE》的副主编。1985年博士毕业于美国加州大学伯克利分校,曾任美国University of Akron杰出教授、土木工程系主任、基础设施材料与健康修复中心主任等职。已培养博士46名,合作培养博士后及访问学者24人;主编专著或会议论文集6部,发表学术论文200多篇。在国际学术会议上做邀请报告30多次,开发UA Slope 3.0软件等专利产品5项,并在美国工业界获得良好的推广应用。

Liang教授现为河海大学引进的海外高层次文教专家、111计划“堤坝工程安全与减灾学科创新引智基地”(B13024)海外专家成员。
